OPEN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - Silver OJT:  NSTA juniors were well represented in the recently completed Open Junior Championships held 1st - 5th January at Talus Street and Tennis Valley.  Robin Pfister and Lauren Riley were both winners in 16 singles with excellent performances in strong fields.  Laura Wunderlich won the 10 girls singles, and Rinky Hijikata was runner up in the 12 boys singles.  A very gallant runner up in the 14 boys singles was Arjun Mehrotra who had to battle a very noisy and demonstrative entourage as well as a very determined opponent.  This tournament was the first to experience Tennis Australia's new format whereby each age group must run qualifying, qualifying consolation, main draw and main draw consolation which resulted in much more administration and many more matches.  Our sincere thanks and appreciation is extended to Elizabeth and Ian Chappel who ran Tennis Valley from 7am - 8pm over 4 days, taking time off from work to do so.  Thank you Elizabeth and Ian ... your time and efforts are much appreciated.  Also our thanks to Garry Delmege for referring over all 5 days and to Col Ritchie who helped out at Tennis Valley.

NORTH SHORE OPEN - GOLD AMT - $22,000:  The North Shore Open held 15th - 18th December 2011 was a great success with 238 players taking part.  Top seed in the open mens, Isaac Frost (Qld) ranked 16 in Australia, was defeated in the quarter finals to the ultimate winner, last year's title holder and evergreen warrior, Sadik Kadir, who then went on to take out Nick Lindahl in the semis and overcoming 27th Australian ranked Dane Propoggia in the final.  In the open ladies singles, last year's winner Emelyn Starr (currently ranked 19 in Australia) made it to the final where she lost an epic match lasting over 3 hours, to Abbie Myers 5-7 6-4 6-7.  For full results and details see website www.northshoreopen.com.au

SATURDAY SPRING COMP:  Finals of the Saturday afternoon Spring Comp were held at Talus Street and Tennis Valley on 10th December.  Most matches were won quite convincingly the possibly the closest being Div 5 mixed when Chatswood versed Chatswood.  Chatswood 2 (Uwe Helmes, Richard Phillips, Marnie Williams and Ellen Van Dam) ran out the ultimate winners by 5 sets 42 games to 3 sets 36 games over Chatswood 3 (Kyle Hengst, Paul Meltzer, Jane Kempton and Birte Koplin).  Div 1/A was an all Kooroora affair also with K1 (Troy Delmege, David Power, Lauren Riley and Isabella Costa) easy winners over K2  (Ben Dalley, Andrew Somerville, Alice Nolan and Sally McBride); and Div 1/B was an all Lane Cove affair with LC1 (Andrew Scanlan, Adrian Montgomery, Emma Forsdick and Sara Goddard) too good for LC2 (Garry Butler, Daniel Yin, Yvonne Davis and Jenny de Vivo).  Chatswood was also successful in Div 1/A mens with Mark Cowper, Dareen Soenario and Rob Edwards victorious over LC3 (Tom Cartwright, Tom Pym and Patrick Price)
